Are you interest in Art? In the past, there have been
very few exhibitions in Seoul. However, nowadays various kinds of exhibitions are
being held in Seoul. Here is some information about current and upcoming art
shows.
1. Musee D’Orsay
Right now, there is an exhibition of paintings in Seoul.
The title is “The Impressionism, Beyond the Light.” The works in this
exhibition reflect the modern city culture in Paris, through paintings,
drawings and sculptures. There, you can see masterpieces such
as Monet’s Woman with a parasol, Houses of Parliament/London/Sun Breaking through
the Fog and Edgar Degas’s Dancer Resting. This is the first time that these
pictures have been exhibited in Korea. This exhibition will be held until
August 31 at the National Museum of Korea.

2. Edvard Munch
The painting “Munch’s scream,” is famous. This picture is regarded as a precursor to the Expressionist movement in modern painting. Munch’s works include the theme of dramatization, intensity and dynamics.
This summer, Munch is
coming to Seoul and more than 90 of his works will be on display. It may excite
many people who are interested in Munch’s pictures and it may become a good
chance to appreciate his pictures. The exhibition is divided into five sections
<first : Munch himself, second : Modern Breakthrough, third : Existence , forth
: Vitality, fifth : The night.> This exhibition will be held until 12
October in the Hangaram Art Museum. In addition, it is the first exhibition of
Munch in Seoul.

3. Troika – Persistent Illusion
Troika is an artist trio – three artists working together. They consist of Conny Freyer, (born 1976, Germany), Eva Rucki (born1976, Germany) and Sebastien Noel (born 1977, France) and have worked together since 2003 when they studied together at the Royal College of Art. Troika is not only working in London but also all over the world.
Their works of art have been exhibited in the Victoria and Albert
Museums, the Tate Britain, the MoMA and the Art institute of Chicago. Their work
expresses the beauty of nature through artificial technology such as electronic
equipment and mechanisms.
The Daelim Museum exhibits their works from April 10, 2014 to
October 12, 2014. In this display, you can see “the Cloud”, which had received
attention when it was displayed in the Heathrow airport. “Falling Light”, is
another piece which caused a sensation when it was exhibited in the Design
Miami, 2010. Both works have never been shown in Seoul.
